Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED ANY EXPERIENCE TO PARTICIPATE?

All our classes have a level indicated with most of them suitable for all levels. Each of the given exercises have progressions/regressions and variations available to tailor to the individual needs. Especially our pole Begin and BeAerial classes are ideal for absolute beginners. You do not need any background in gymnastics or dance. You will learn everything in class, from proper technique to ways to improve the movement.

DO I HAVE TO BE FIT/STRONG/FLEXIBLE FOR POLE/AERIALS?

No matter your fitness level, body shape or size, everybody can learn pole and aerials. Every class you take part in will get you stronger and fitter, and your body will adapt for pole dancing/aerials. In fact, pole dancing/aerials can help to improve your flexibility and strength over time.

IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

We currently do not teach anybody under the age of 16. We currently have students of various ages. We strongly believe in that you are never too old to learn a new skill.

I HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION, CAN I STILL PARTICIPATE?

If you are on medication or have a medical condition that effects you whilst participating in physical activity, please speak to your doctor before coming to the class. If you have an injury and feel you can participate, this will be at your own risk. You must inform the instructor about your medical condition and/or injury. We may be able to help with a tailored plan that doesn't effect your injury or can help to strengthen it. For example, if you have Asthma please bring your inhaler with you and let one of the instructors know where it is so that we can access it if we need to.

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR?

Our general advise it to wear what you feel comfortable in that does not restrict movement. Many students wear gym clothing. All classes are barefoot or on socks. Also make sure you don't wear jewellery, like rings, bracelets, anklets, during the class as this could potentially hurt you and damage the poles/aerial apparatus. There are special trinkets available for you to put them safely away.

FOR POLE: wear some comfortably fitted shorts and sports top as we need the skin for grip. Additionally, you could wear some leggings/joggings for the warming-up/cooling down. Please, make sure you don't apply any greasy lotions on the day of your pole class as this could affect your grip and make you slip down the pole.

FOR AERIALS: leggings and armpit-covering tops are advised for this class. Many students wear layers, ideal for the warming-up/cooling down, and for the additional protection against friction.

WHAT DO I BRING TO THE CLASS?

Yourself and your smile. You can bring your own water bottle however, we have a small kitchen area with drinking cups for you to use. Bring a hand towel if you have one for hygienic purposes.

DO I SHARE A POLE/AERIAL APPARATUS?

At Be in the Sky we put our students interests first and keep our teaching standards high. There will be a maximum of 2 persons per pole or aerial apparatus. We do need you to book on to the class to ensure we can maintain this standard.

WHAT IF I SHOW UP LATE? CAN I STILL JOIN THE CLASS?

Each class starts with a warm up which is designed to prevent injuries. If you are too late and missed (part of) the warm up you can still join the class but you are participating the session on your own risk.

DO I HAVE TO BOOK/PAY IN ADVANCE, OR CAN I SHOW UP IN CLASS?

As all our group classes have limited spaces, you need to book on for each class. We make use of an online booking system which also deals with payment so there is no need to bring in cash.

HOW DO I BOOK ON?

We use an online booking system. You can book for yourself or for somebody else. You can add a trial pass and/or buy more classes in one go. Please see the YouTube links for extra visual guidance.

DO I HAVE TO MAKE AN ACCOUNT?

No, you do not have to make an account. However, setting up a password after your booking will store your personal details (like your contact details, medical background, etc) so  you do not need to enter them again the next time you want to book a class.

WHAT IF I BOOKED ON TO A CLASS AND CAN NO LONGER MAKE IT?

We run a 24-hours cancellation policy whereby you can transfer your booking to another class if you do it at least 24-hours before your original class. If you do not reschedule (aka "transfer" in the booking system) within 24 hours of your booked lesson, you will be charged 100% of your lesson fee and effectively loose that class. Please read our full terms and conditions for more information.

IS THERE A WAITING LIST?

When a class is fully booked you can be added to a waiting list. Please follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive a confirmation email with further instructions and will be informed when a place becomes available.

IS THERE ANY PARKING AT THE STUDIO?

On-street parking on Medina Rd may be challenging, particular in the evening. We therefore advise to make use of the car park at Sainsbury's (entry via Victor street), only a 2-minute walk away from the studio. The car park at Sainbury’s offers 90 minutes of free parking. In case you are staying longer than 90 minutes, you could find on-street parking without any time restriction at Riddling Close or Anglesea Rd (just to give a few suggestions) still at a 2-to-3 minutes walk to the Studio. Click to see the map.

IS THERE A CHANGING ROOM/TOILET?

The studio is designed with an accessible toilet/changing room and small kitchen area which can be conveniently used before, during and after the classes.

CAN MEN DO POLE AND AERIALS?

Inclusivity is at the heart of our studio, welcoming all gender identities. Pole/Aerials in particular have benefits for everyone and is a sport that should be enjoyed by all.
